PRINTING FACTORY LOFTS

Built in 1913 to house the printing presses of Rolph Clark Stone, 201 Carlaw Avenue is a Leslieville landmark now reborn as The Printing Factory Lofts with 254 condominium units and stacked townhouses.
The ‘Lofts’ were completed in 2010 in joint venture with Montgomery Sisam Architects and John Chandler as project architect.The development received the City of Toronto Urban Design Award and a People’s Choice ‘PUG’ award.

WALLACE WALK

Located in Toronto’s Junction Triangle neighbourhood, this four-storey stacked townhouse development includes a row of commercial lofts that act as a mandated barrier along the adjacent rail corridor. The development included a new municipal road and a new community centre for the City of Toronto, and required the reconfiguration of an historic pedestrian rail corridor overpass. The project houses 167 residential units and 21 light industrial/commercial units with all parking below grade. This allowed for enhanced pedestrian landscaped areas between the various blocks.

HOCKEY HALL OF FAME

Starting in 1988 KFA and its principles executed the original design and all subsequent additions and improvements to The Hockey Hall of Fame. Widely considered to be the world’s pre-eminent sport’s museum, the Hall houses over 60,000 square feet of exhibitry space, a 4,000 square foot specialty store and an off-site, museum-standard 18,000 square foot archives and research centre.
Among its many highlights is the restored 1886 ‘Great Hall’ with its stained glass dome. Here the honoured members are recognized alongside the NHL’s superb trophies and the Stanley Cup.

KFA was retained to execute a complete redesign of a recently completed large client services area located on the top floor of one of Toronto’s premier new office buildings.
The changes encompassed around 6,000 square feet. KFA’s design exceeded the client’s expectations. Adding a movable wall system to existing meeting rooms allows the client to easily transform the space into a variety of configurations, one of which creates a large open area for evening receptions of over 300 people.

AL KHOR WATERFRONT COMPETITION: QATAR

KFA Planners in partnership with RAW Architects were premiated for this planning competition launched in October 2008. The site of over 800 hectares and adjacent to the Persian Gulf in Al Khor, Qatar, presented a number of challenges including sensitive areas of protected mangrove forests and marine environment. Our planning proposal was awarded for its sensitive balancing of economic growth and social development coupled with an appropriate management of a delicate marine environment.

CORPORATE EXECUTIVE MEN’S CLUB

This venerable men’s only athletic club located inside a prestigious hotel in Toronto’s downtown financial core, hired KFA to renovate and redesign its spa area.
The outcome was an elegant and sophisticated spa worthy of the club’s long history catering to Toronto’s corporate executives in an oasis type setting. KFA’s carefully detailed design links tradition with contemporary functionality.

77 WOODSTREAM

KFA took great care in designing this four building condominium complex to maximize density while maintaining optimal views and access to the adjacent conservation lands.
Once completed this project will house over 450 units with three underground parking levels. The Woodstream podium that connects the two main towers will house a commercial component as well as the shared amenity areas. The project is targeted for completion in 2018.

KFA designed this eight storey, 122 unit development in the Highway 7 corridor in Woodbridge. Vista Parc enhances the neighbourhood with its contemporary urban design.
Built by Quadcam Developments, this sophisticated condominium complex makes a distinctive architectural statement not otherwise found in the surrounding area. The careful siting of the building allows for stunning views into acres of green space and parkland.

LUXURY CONDOMINIUM RESIDENCE: TORONTO

This 1,700 square foot condominium was built in the 1980s and still had the originally layout when the client retained KFA to completely redesign the interior. KFA’s design is based on an open living concept. Upon entering, the living, dining and kitchen area flow into one grand space only distinguished by different floor and ceiling treatments.
The corridor leading to the bedrooms was widened with new custom designed storage closets behind cherry wood panels on one side and floating book shelves on the other. The old master bedroom closets were removed and a new dressing room created with custom millwork. The kitchen was completely reconfigured as well and incorporates cherry wood millwork with integrated appliances.
